Color Names for Artificial Baits Fishing in Saltwater or Freshwater

Color Names for Artificial Baits Fishing in Saltwater or Freshwater

The assortment of artificial baits, plastic baits, lures, top water poppers and bottom fishing worms to choose from could easily fill a large lake. But we are going to challenge your mind with the color spectrum naming division of the artificial bait industry. Who has secured the most creative, enticing color names in the business? Who is the most clever color name manufacturer in the fishing industry? And the question for the ages, which color is the most effective?

Tom Mann sold a slew of colored worms. When asked which he preferred said, "I will fish any color worm, as long as it is black." Bill Dance answered the question with "Any color will work as long as it is blue."

Let's begin with a short list of incredible engineers of artificial bait that we have run across in our fishing travels. We have placed them in Alphabetical Order, no preference intended.

Often artificial bait is multicolored. The term laminate means dual color top and bottom and adding this option multiplies the consumer choice greatly. Navigating through the collection of companies and lure/artificial bait choices is not a possibility we intend to maneuver for this post. We also do not intend to go into the when's or how's of artificial baits and lures. Besides, that has been covered fully by professionals elsewhere on the internet. We are here to talk color and color name coolness.

Food, spice, candy, cloth pattern, inanimate or themed objects, the color names used by artificial fishing bait and lure companies pull from everything from Crayola and Sherwin Williams to Versace and What's for Dinner.

We have included a blend of freshwater and saltwater artificial fishing bait. We are old enough to remember when anglers who fished the surf almost exclusively used live or cut bait. But when we were very young, we wanted to use our fathers lures fishing the saltwater. We both recall drooling over them as they lay waiting in the slots of a tackle box. They are memories we shared early in our relationship and still laugh about today as more saltwater lures come to the marketplace.

Anglers from across the globe have been searching for the elusive color, the mystical hue, the shade of triumph. Individuals, Companies, and Testing Firms have all run studies on the color artificial bait should be. Evidence from color testing is inconclusive, and there is no one color that works for everyone or every region. Individual anglers have favorites and regionally those angler favorites differ. If there was a "magic" color, the secret would be out by now and not one new artificial bait would be created that wasn't that color. If bass have a favorite color, they're not speaking up.

While we only use artificial lures about 20% of the time, the few who have mastered them are a joy to watch. Our hope is through viewing, we will get that 20% up a ways. Some of the individuals with instructional and entertaining knowledge in the fishing arena include but are certainly not limited to:

So, Who has secured the most creative, enticing color names in the business? Who is the most clever color name manufacturer in the fishing industry? And the question for the ages, which color is the most effective? These questions are for the individual angler to answer. Let minnow!

Full disclosure, we are not affiliated with any company listed here. While this article contains facts and truth, this article also houses our personal opinion and observation of artificial bait color and performance. No fish were harmed in the writing of this article.  Also, we prefer blue =)
