The Florida Bass Conservation Center, Floridas largest fish hatchery, is located in Webster, Sumter County, Florida. The Richloam State Fish Hatchery has been the occupant of this site since 1965 and holds this division of Florida Fish and Wildlife. They are responsible for supplying largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bream, triploid grass carp, striped bass and sunshine bass to Florida's fresh waters. Florida has 6 species of bass throughout the state but this facility stocks only the unique Florida Largemouth Bass. The FBCC is set up to produce over 6 million fish annually equivalent to $12 million. Since 2008, they stock about 4.3 million fish annually.
The Florida Bass Conservation Center property houses 62 ponds, one of which is fishing catch and release. A free self guided tour adds to a fun list of day trips in Florida for all. The visitors center is full of fish and fishing information, education, conservation, hatchery, and 1700 gallon aquarium! Pre-scheduling large groups or student field trips is a must. The Visitor's Center is open Mon through Friday from 9am to 3pm except holidays.
